Splendid vintage Torkaman (Turkmen) oriental rug, entirely hand-knotted with pure wool yarns on a sturdy cotton structure. This piece expresses the authentic charm of tribal and nomadic craftsmanship from Central Asia. The pattern features a strictly geometric layout with a central diamond medallion and a rich border of cartouches and arabesque compartments. The color range plays with earth tones, ochre, and deep blue, enriched by beautiful natural color variations (abrash) typical of traditional dyes. The construction is extremely solid, made with the typical symmetric knot, and the original cotton warp fringe is evidence of its absolute authenticity (as visible from the back photos). Condition (Please read carefully): The rug is structurally intact along the edges, kilims, and fringes, but shows signs of significant wear in the central area of the field. In this zone the wool is worn down and shaved to expose the white underlying warp, as highlighted in the photographic details. This condition gives the rug a unique vintage character and a perfect “distressed / shabby” look, ideal for interior design projects seeking the warmth of a lived-in, original piece, not replicable industrially.
