Rough diamond pendant / new Set in 925 sterling silver Includes leather cord Weight: 1.28 g (weighed without the leather cord) 13.7 mm x 6.9 mm x 6.1 mm New and unworn Diamond is the cubic modification of carbon and, as a naturally occurring solid, a mineral in the class of elements. Diamonds usually form octahedral crystals, often with curved and striated facets. Other observed shapes include tetrahedra, dodecahedra, and cubes. The crystals are transparent, colorless, or colored green, yellow, brown and less commonly orange, blue, pink, red, or gray to black due to impurities (e.g., nitrogen or boron) or crystal lattice defects. Diamond is the hardest natural substance. On the Mohs scale it has a hardness of 10. Its abrasive hardness according to the Roisal (Rosiwal) scale — also called absolute hardness — is 140 times greater than that of corundum. However, the hardness of diamond is anisotropic, varying with crystal direction. This makes it possible to grind diamond with diamond. In the diamond powder used for this purpose, the crystals are oriented in every direction (statistical isotropy), so the hardest among them always act on the workpiece being ground. Diamond is optically isotropic with a high refractive index and high dispersion. It shows fluorescence and phosphorescence and is triboelectric. It possesses the highest thermal conductivity of all known minerals. Shipping as insured registered mail
