Rooted in Light - Gary Westall

Rooted in Light by Gary Westall Painting 15.8 x 19.7 :: I drew inspiration for this painting during my visit to the Stadthagen Castle Park. I used a photo I took there as a reference. I was particularly drawn to the old intertwined tree trunks the powerful roots and the fascinating interplay of light and shadow. While painting I used my photograph as a guide but deliberately translated the motif into my own visual language. The intense shades of green violet and turquoise enhance the painting’s unique atmosphere and lend the landscape a dreamlike quality. For me the tree is the focal point of the painting. Its roots convey a sense of connection and permanence while the light filtering through the trees symbolizes change and vitality. With this painting I aim not only to depict a place but above all to capture my personal memory and the feeling I experienced during my visit to the castle park. The painting is signed on the back and initialed on the tree trunk.
