Romar (submerk Roamer) - No reserve price - Men - 1970-1979

This elegant vintage Romar men’s watch from the late sixties to early seventies is a beautiful example of classic European watchmaking. The watch is in a strikingly neat and original condition, with the gold-colored case having a traditional 34 mm diameter without a crown, giving a refined and timeless look on the wrist. This model has a unique French-Swiss origin. The sturdy and purely mechanical hand-wound movement is of Swiss manufacture, as Romar functioned as a respected sub-brand of the well-known Roamer. The watch case itself, however, was manufactured in France to circumvent the strict import rules of the time. This is irrefutably proven by the official French case-makers’ and gold guarantee stamps, including a subtle hallmark on the case lug and a rectangular master stamp between the lugs with an inscription indicating high-quality gilding. The case is fitted with a thick, wear-resistant gold layer (plaqué or) applied over a brass base and has withstood the ravages of time with hardly visible wear on the edges. At the back there is a sturdy stainless steel back case which bears inscriptions for anti-magnetic protection and stainless steel, which at the time was done to prevent skin irritation from sweating. The deep blue dial forms a splendid contrast with the large, bright white Arabic numerals and features a distinctive square subdial for the small seconds hand just above the six o’clock position. Technically, the movement is equipped with 17 jewels or synthetic rubies to minimize friction between the gears, combined with the famous Incabloc shock system that protects the mechanism from everyday bumps. The watch comes with a matching dark blue leather strap with a gold-colored buckle on which the size 14 millimeters is stamped. This object is an extremely charming, reliable, and historically interesting collectible for the lover of pure mechanical vintage watches. The stainless steel back case is externally minimalist with only the functional inscriptions for anti-magnetic protection and stainless steel. As is typical with this type of French-Swiss vintage watch, any internal reference number or case number is located on the inside of the snap-back.
