Romantic Vintage Ring With Sapphire & Diamonds Set in Platinum, c. 1970

This ring presents itself as a dynamic variation of the classic Entourage motif. The ring face is slightly raised and holds its precious setting in a basket made of platinum struts, allowing plenty of light to reach the gemstones. The bright precious metal is visually restrained to the maximum. The dark blue natural sapphire, weighing about 1.40 carats, is surrounded by two opposing sweeps of diamonds that appear like the spiral arms of a distant galaxy. Two diamonds in baguette cut add a surprising moment to the design. The history of jewellery knows the special symbolism of this classic combination of gemstones: for example, the sapphire was considered a symbol of fidelity, truth and loyalty. The diamond, on the other hand, was often understood as a symbol of eternity due to its particular hardness. Entourage rings of this kind, with blue sapphire and brilliant cut diamonds, have enjoyed renewed popularity in recent years: Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, also wears a sapphire ring with diamonds on her ring finger - a piece of jewellery that Princess Diana had previously chosen as an engagement ring. The ring, which came to us from Switzerland, is beautifully preserved. According to the workmanship and design, it was made in the years around 1970. An independent appraisal has confirmed the quality of the materials used.
