Refined cornice made of carved wood, chiselled, stuccoed with plaster and gilded in fine gold, dating from the early 1900s. Scenically magnificent in appearance and form, its greatest merit is the modanate profile with multiple orders, carved, rich in chasing and the valuable reticulated belt with gouge work done manually on the plaster preparation. The wooden structure features rich leaf-gold gilding that preserves a splendid patina of time. The external profile is rhythmized by an elegant carved motif of “nail-like” impressions and oblique grooves, which give movement and three-dimensionality to the structure. The most valuable antique element is the refined gouge work on the battuta: a meticulous hand-incised artisan carving that creates a delicate play of geometric textures, capable of breaking light in a unique and vibrant way. To counterpoint the brilliance of the gold is the frame’s core: a refined inner passe-partout covered in brick-red/purple, which adds warmth, depth, and a touch of regal antiquity to the whole ensemble. The cipher alternates sections with geometric netting with X-incised lozenges and delicate continuous and symmetric wavy lines (festoon motif). The four centers balance the sides with a relief engraving composed of double opposing volutes. At the corners, the decorative apparatus intensifies, reintroducing motifs that harmoniously connect the structure. An artwork to welcome art. This splendid frame enchants with the sophisticated union of vibrant gilding, finely embellished by meticulous gouge work that catches the light, and the deep softness of the red passe-partout. The delicate carved nail impressions along the profile bear witness to the high craftsmanship of the piece, making it a lot of rare charm and absolute theatrical elegance.
