Riccardo Tosti (1910-1986) - Pagliaccio

An original oil on canvas by Riccardo Tosti, created around the mid-1970s, depicting a clown playing the violin in the arena of a circus illuminated by the show lights, with the spectators in the shadowed areas. The clown's face expresses ecstasy in playing the violin, and overall the contrast between images and lights in chiaroscuro forms the image of a moment—the artist's dimension, as he plays, concentrating the attention of those present. A work that, when looked at, intrigues and involves the viewer in the scene, almost as if inviting one to hear a music chosen from the observer's imagination. The frame is also original to the era."
