René Sautin (1881-1968) - Lotto di tre dipinti con Paesaggi in Normandia

o. 3 – painting by the painter René Sautin (1881–1968), a well-known French landscape painter belonging to the Rouen School (Normandy), oil on stretched cardboard, in good condition. The work is sold without a frame. Biography and Artistic Career Training: Born in Montfort-sur-Risle, he studied first at the School of Fine Arts of Rouen and later in Paris at the Ferrier studio, receiving valuable guidance from the Impressionist master Albert Lebourg. Link to Normandy: In 1911 he settled permanently in Les Andelys. The vast majority of his paintings depict the Seine, Norman villages, and the surrounding countryside. The war years: On June 8, 1940, the bombardments destroyed much of Les Andelys. Sautin visually documented the destruction of his beloved city through a famous series of watercolors. Painting Style From Impressionism to Fauvism: Initially influenced by Impressionism, around 1923 Sautin radically changed his style, arriving at a calm and reasoned Fauvism. The technique: He argued that painting meant “to lay down matter and not rub it in.” His works are characterized by a generous use of full-bodied color (thick impasto brushstrokes), bold outlined lines, and bright, luminous tones. In his final years, due to progressive loss of sight, he further intensified the vivacity of his colors. Provenance and market/antiquarian source Shipping: fast with secure packaging.
