Reed and Barton - Salt and pepper shakers (2) - No: 70 - .925 silver

REED & BARTON - STERLING - WEIGHTED AND REINFORCED - 70 • Maker: Reed & Barton, Taunton, Massachusetts, USA. One of the oldest and most well-known American silversmiths, established in 1824. • Material: The exterior is genuine 925 sterling silver; the base is weighted (filled with pitch)—hence the designation "Weighted and Reinforced." This was done to provide greater stability and a more substantial, luxurious feel. • Model: No. 70, a classic Art Deco / Mid-Century shaker-style design, dating from approximately 1920–1950. • A matching salt and pepper set designed in the shape of cocktail shakers, featuring a charming little finial (tower) on top. Condition as shown in the photos: vintage, pre-owned condition, with some scratches, dull spots, and minor pitting near the holes. This is typical for weighted sterling silver pieces that are nearly 100 years old. Not polished.
