Red Coral by Bamboo - Complex organic textures Handmade...

Mosaic of polished tiles on a concave metal frame — A refined decorative tray or catch-all that embodies the fusion between natural material and contemporary design. This piece, from India, features a mosaic surface made with Bamboo Coral tiles, carefully assembled inside a modern metal structure with silvery finishes. Its square, slightly concave shape renders it as much functional as aesthetically valuable, capable of catching the eye and enriching any environment. Careful observation reveals meticulous artisanal work. The inner surface is a vibrant carpet of rectangular tiles, whose deep red color is brightened by orange hues and the inherent organic grain of the coral, visible on every single element. This natural variation creates a dynamic, deep effect, enhanced by polishing that gives a delicate luster. The mosaic is framed by a smooth, bright metal edge that produces an elegant material and chromatic contrast. Four small spherical feet raise the object, lending it lightness and stability. Bamboo Coral (family Isididae) is a deep-sea marine organism whose skeleton, made of calcium carbonate, features segments alternating with protein nodes, reminiscent of a bamboo stalk. Its natural color ranges from white to cream; the vivid red coloration of this specimen is achieved through a dyeing process, a long-established and appreciated practice that allows for intense, uniform tones, emulating the appearance of rarer and protected precious corals, while keeping visible its distinctive porous structure. This tray is a perfect example of a modern Wunderkammer object. Its dual nature, halfway between a natural history specimen and a design furnishing, makes it ideal for a careful collector or for anyone desiring a unique piece for their study, library, or console. It can serve as an elegant jewelry holder, a catch-all on a desk, or simply as a decorative sculpture, testimony of craftsmanship that can transform the wonders of nature into functional art."
