RAREST BLACK MELANITE

From our selection of collectible minerals, we offer a splendid group of melanite crystals, a black variety of andradite, originating from San Benito County, California. Moreover, it is characterized by numerous shiny black dodecahedral crystals, gathered in well-formed aggregates on a light matrix that creates a strong color contrast, with a piece of substantial size that increases its aesthetic value and mineralogical importance. The specimen stands out for the quality of crystallization and for the overall aesthetic balance, with features that enhance its natural structure and visual impact. Melanite is a black variety of andradite, a calcium-iron garnet in the nesosilicate group, whose dark color is due to partial substitution of iron with titanium in the crystal structure. San Benito County, California, is a geologically unique locality, linked to the serpentinite rocks of the Franciscan Complex and known among collectors for giving the name to benitoite, the state gemstone of California. Garnet crystals in this area typically form by contact metamorphism in environments rich in calcium and iron. This is an ideal specimen for mineral collections, display, and for those who appreciate the natural beauty of minerals, also in the context of crystal therapy and lithotherapy, according to the properties traditionally attributed to the mineral species. All minerals are 100% natural and untreated, with very rare exceptions always noted in the description. Photographs are taken with professional lighting to best showcase colors and details; however, slight variations in shade may occur depending on the device or ambient light.
