Impressive and unusual large-format advertising wall plaque dedicated to the celebrated Romeo y Julieta cigar brand, distinguished by its generous dimensions, elaborate construction and highly decorative appearance. The piece comes from an Italian specialist tobacconist dealing in premium cigars, tobacco products and smoking accessories. Measuring approximately 75 × 30 × 2 cm, the plaque has a particularly striking presence and is constructed using a combination of wood, board, leather, suede-like material and applied decorative elements. Its elongated sculptural shape features beautifully curved upper and lower borders, deep green lateral panels and intricate geometric ornamentation in contrasting brown and natural tones. At the centre is the instantly recognisable historic Romeo y Julieta imagery, depicting the famous romantic scene of Romeo and Juliet surrounded by flowers and architectural details. The central composition is richly embellished with numerous gold-coloured embossed medal motifs, reproducing the historic international awards traditionally represented in the brand's celebrated graphic identity. References visible in the decoration include Antwerp 1885, Brussels 1887, Melbourne 1888 and Paris 1889. One of the most attractive aspects of the piece is the combination of different materials and textures. Warm brown leather contrasts beautifully with the deep green suede-like sections, while the gilded details and richly coloured central image create remarkable visual depth. This is not simply a flat printed advertising image: its layered construction, individually applied decorative elements and substantial dimensions give the plaque an impressive, almost three-dimensional character. The reverse retains its original hanging system and an old retail label, both preserved as interesting elements of the object's history. The plaque is in excellent overall condition, with a solid structure, vivid central image and remarkably well-preserved decorative applications. There are only minor signs consistent with age and previous display. For complete accuracy, two of the small circular leather decorative applications are missing. These are simple elements and could easily be replicated if desired. This minor detail does not detract from the overall appearance or decorative impact of the piece.
