R. Serra - LA SOMBRA XL

The Shadow — Contemporary Painting The Shadow is a coastal-inspired work that captures a moment of calm by the sea. The female figure, seen from behind and sheltered by a pink hat, walks on the sand while her shadow is projected onto the beach. The intense blue of the sky contrasts with the greenish tones of the water and the delicate pink and warm hues of the sand, creating a composition with strong chromatic impact. The loose, expressive brushwork, along with the simplification of forms, brings freshness and movement to the scene. The light, color, and the relationship between the figure and her shadow become the central elements of the composition, evoking the atmosphere of a bright day by the sea. This work is part of a series of paintings called Azul, dedicated to coastal landscapes and everyday moments by the sea. Other pieces in the series explore related scenes and motifs, maintaining visual coherence through color, light, and a free, contemporary pictorial interpretation. The shadow can be appreciated as an independent work and, at the same time, as part of a set that invites discovering different variations of the same visual universe. • Artist: R. Serra is a visual artist living in Spain whose practice centers on pictorial research and the mechanisms of image construction. Trained in Visual Arts, with a specialty in painting, and later studies in graphic design, he develops a language that places painting in dialogue with the aesthetics and visual logics of digital culture. His work investigates memory as a process of editing and reconstruction, where lived and imagined memories converge to generate images that question the stability of representation. Through painting, he explores the tensions between presence and absence, experience and fiction, proposing scenes suspended between the intimate and the universal. Over the last decade he has pursued an exhibition career that includes group shows in national and international galleries, consolidating his presence in the contemporary art context.
