Toutes les enchères / Ethnographie / Pyrite crystals - Exceptional Natural Luster and...
Collection Specimen of Pyrite from Matrix with Cubic and Pyritohedral Crystals — This specimen represents a classic in systematic mineralogy, displaying pyrite (FeS₂) crystals of notable morphological perfection. Pyrite, an iron sulfide, crystallizes in the isometric system, and in this sample distinct dominant cubic forms are clearly observed, accompanied by secondary faces suggesting the presence of pyritohedral modifications. The aggregated formation highlights crystal growth under optimal geochemical conditions, allowing the development of smooth and well-defined faces. Aesthetically, the mineral presents its characteristic vivid metallic luster, a bright brass-yellow color that elegantly contrasts with the darker areas of the residual matrix. The reflectivity of the crystal faces is exceptional, creating a play of light and shadow that enhances its three-dimensionality. Some crystals show slight growth striations, typical of pyrite and indicative of the growth stages of the crystal lattice, attesting to the completely natural and untreated nature of the specimen. The origin from Huanzala Mine, located in the Huallanca region, Peru, is in itself a guarantee of quality for pyrite specimens. This locality is renowned worldwide for having produced some of the most iconic and best-crystallized pyrite samples. The local geological setting, characterized by hydrothermal deposits associated with granitic or granodioritic intrusions in sedimentary rocks (primarily limestones), favored the crystallization of high-quality sulfides. The specimen stands out for its structural integrity and the absence of significant damage, presenting a harmonious composition of crystals of different sizes that intersect and overlap. The host rock matrix, to which the pyrite crystals are firmly anchored, helps stabilize the specimen and provides a natural context for its display. The arrangement of the crystals forms a compact and robust aggregate, ideal for a discerning collection. The preservation state is excellent, with intact crystals maintaining their original luster. Although no separate base is present, the cluster's structure allows good stability for display. The integrity of the crystal surfaces, free from alterations or signs of handling, underscores the collectible value of the object. Pyrite specimens of this quality and origin are highly sought after by collectors for their intrinsic beauty and their educational and historical significance. Pieces like this, from Huanzala, represent not only an icon of Peruvian mineralogy but also a reference point for the study of crystal forms and the formation conditions of sulfides. The combination of renowned provenance, superb crystallization, and high metallic luster makes this lot a precious addition to any serious exhibition mineral collection.
