By order of the High Mightiness the States General of the United Netherlands and according to the Decision of the National Synod (...) - Dordrecht, Hendrik, Jacob and Pieter Keur / Amsterdam, Marcus Doornick & Pieter Rotterdam, 1702 - Old Testament + New Testament - (16) +302 + (2) + 134 + (4) + (12) + 164 leaves (x2 is the number of pages) - original leather binding with blind stamping (line borders and medallions) on oak boards; original brass fittings (8 corner pieces, 2 clasps) - 43 x 29 x 14 cm (EXTRA LARGE-FOLIO size) NB: a part of the photos appears yellowed due to sunlight/camera settings, paper is actually fresh and white! Condition: good - very neat original binding (front hinge a bit vulnerable but firmly attached, clasps replaced); generally neat and clean pages! (first gathering somewhat shifted, in Old Testament damp stain diminishing, from Psalms to Acts increasing and decreasing with blotting paper restored lower corners due to nibbling, frays, folds and vulnerable corners as a result of so-called pulpit sickness (the sleeves of the preacher’s toga rubbed along the corners of the open Bible on the pulpit), some larger repairs, margin of world map missing, some wear on maps/engraved plates: s.w.a.f.. Otherwise neat, fresh and white paper!). Complete. A scarce copy of the States Bible from a unique and very rare printer’s combination: the 'Keur brothers' in collaboration with Marcus Doornick & Pieter Rotterdam. The collaboration with Marcus Doornick is actually only known from other editions! [EN] Bound: complete set of 6 prints (engraved plates) printed by Frederick de Witte, by Schut or Danckaerts to Merian with each 16 copper engravings, 96 fine engravings in total (!) Print plates with very large margins. Very dark and sharp prints. Very detailed: true little works of art! [EN] Provided with all (!) 6 fold-out maps: - World Chart - Geography of Paradise - Forty-year Journey of the Children of Israel - Jerusalem and its Temple - Promised Land Canaan - Journeys of Paul All maps and engravings are shown in the photo: see those for a good impression. At the time the 'World Chart' was issued, the entire world was not yet explored and known. California is drawn as an island, Australia was still partly undiscovered and is indicated as 'New Holland'! Even the world map alone is incredibly captivating! A very charming States Bible. With complete, authentic fittings. Very large and heavy Bible!
