Precious Ruby & Diamond Brooch in Belle Époque Forms, ca. 1980

Convincing, beautiful and enchanting jewellery designs have existed in every era. But when it comes to elegant delicacy in design and execution, probably no era has produced such magnificent jewellery creations as those last short years before the outbreak of the First World War. At the height of the Belle Époque, jewellery was created that is still unparalleled today. No wonder, then, that these designs were repeatedly the inspiration for jewellery of subsequent eras. A fine example of this refined style in a later incarnation is the astonishing brooch presented here, with a large ruby in a teardrop cut and a total of 65 diamonds, three of them in the rare briolette cut as pendant suspensions. The work of high-carat white gold presents the ruby in its center, surrounded by diamonds in the old European and modern brilliant cut. Fine bars, called knife wires (because their face is as fine as a knife's edge), form small tendrils that make the stones almost float, and detailed milgrains refract the light a thousand times. Here, as in all other details, you can see how precisely and at the same time finely this brooch is crafted. A true masterpiece. In this piece of jewellery obviously antique and modern gemstones have been used to a new composition, probably here a client from an old piece forged a new one that better suited his taste. Particularly precious, in addition to the natural ruby, are the three large diamonds faceted all around, which are suspended from the jewellery teardrop-shaped. We have had a detailed certificate done on the brooch in Idar Oberstein, which comes with the jewellery.
