Portrait of a patrician lady Deutsch

Set against a dark background, the unknown lady appears in a austere black gown with fur-trimmed sleeves and a finely patterned bonnet. Precious fabrics, jewellery and her hands—adorned with rings and resting calmly one upon the other—bear witness to her high social standing. Painted towards the end of the 16th century, this portrait follows the tradition of South German patrician portraiture.
