Porcellana Ester Bassano - Mario Pegoraro (XXème siècle) - Sculpture

Sumptuous, rare, and imposing lamp-sculpture (H. 33 cm x L. 36 cm / 4.4 kg), created by Mario Pegoraro (20th century) for the famous Ester Bassano porcelain manufactory, Porcellana Ester Bassano. This superb sculpture is Art Nouveau in style, depicting a stylized female figure in a lotus position on a cushion before a majestic gilded reflector screen shaped like a shell. This luminous artwork blends the elegance of Italian figurative sculpture with the functionality of an ambient night-light. It exhibits a theatrical and graphic aesthetic, merging the elegance of Art Nouveau with the geometric lines of Neo-Art Deco. The sculpture presents a particularly large and rare format for this collection, making it a true centerpiece for interior spaces. The visual impact is hypnotic thanks to the striking contrast between the shimmering gold inside the shell and the turquoise of the headdress and cushion, delivering an incredible visual effect when lit or off. It is, I think, a “favorite” item that will integrate perfectly into upscale interiors—contemporary, Art Nouveau, or Hollywood Regency... The sixth photo will also help you envision it in an interior setting. Detailed description: - Artist / Creator: Mario Pegoraro, Italian sculptor of the 20th century. A master Italian sculptor active in the second half of the 20th century and the early 21st century, Mario Pegoraro signed Iconic neo-Art Deco pieces for Ester. His theatrical and sensual representations of the female body, often paired with exotic or gilded adornments, are sought after by international collectors of antique luminaires. (Biographical note: the artist worked exclusively during his lifetime for major Italian ceramic and art resin signatures). - Manufacture: Porcellana Ester Bassano (Italy), a renowned workshop famous for high-end porcelain art. Located in Bassano del Grappa, a historic center of Northern Italian ceramic artistry, Ester specialized in high-end decorative porcelain in the 20th century. Internationally recognized for exclusive creations that combine Capodimonte-type porcelain traditions with a modern, bold, glamorous design. It is no longer active today, which makes its productions rare, especially in this format. - Era: Late 20th century (Circa 1980–1990). - Style: A timeless style revisiting 1930s aesthetics, Art Nouveau, Neo-Art Deco. - Rarity: Limited edition, highly sought after. - Signature: The piece is signed by the artist on the bottom back: “Mario Pegoraro” “Ester”. The workshop mark is somewhat faded but legible. It carries: - The seal of the famous crowned shield with the “N” symbol, traditional of excellence in Capodimonte porcelain. - The handwritten inscription “Made in Italy” “PEZZO n° 4” Limited Edition N. 1500” on the back of the sculpture at the top right. This artwork indeed comes from an exclusive limited print run of only 1500 pieces worldwide. The piece also bears the original authenticity sticker inside the shell next to the bulb, noting “Porcellana Ester Bassano.” - Materials, Technique, Finishes & Colors: This work was entirely molded and finished by hand. The entire statue and its structure are made of Capodimonte fine porcelain and enameled art ceramic. The color finishes offer a magnificent contrast. It features an elaborate polychrome decoration characterized by a cushion with matching patterns and a spectacular fine-gold gilding applied to the large reflector panel of the shell. • The body has a soft powdery blue-gray shade with a matte finish, highlighting anatomical details and posture. • The headdress is turquoise / emerald green, sculpted in relief to mimic feathers outlined with gilding. • The seat is a stunning cushion in glossy turquoise enamel, sprinkled with tiny gold dots. • Details: The jewelry (tiara, arm bracelets, belt) as well as the entire interior of the reflector shell are accented with bright gold, imparting warm luminosity when the lamp is on or off. Finally, the underside of the sculpture is covered with beige original felt, ensuring perfect protection for your furniture. - Dimensions: • Height: 33 cm • Width: 36 cm • Depth: 23 cm - Weight: 4.4 kg - Condition: • Excellent overall condition. The turquoise enamel and gold gilding on the shell retain their original brightness and gleam. • Electrical system: Perfect electrical working order. The lamp lights up beautifully from the back, creating a warm indirect illumination that highlights the gold reflections of the porcelain. Fully functional. The plug and power cord are original and the lamp operates very well (tested). Ready to be installed in your home. • Only very light signs of normal use due to age, with no visual impact. • Presence of fine micro-cracks originally in the gold shell near the cushion (natural crazing of the gilding). The fine line visible in the background of the gold shell next to the manufacturer label is completely smooth to the touch (undetectable by touch); it is a superficial firing mark and not a structural fissure. (photos near the end) • A small, discreet chip at the tip of one finger of the right hand, the thumb (facing front), but it is hardly noticeable. This classic defect on these porcelains with very fine extremities remains very discreet and does not alter in any way the visual splendor of the work. (see last two photos) This sculpture has been magnificently preserved. (Please see the many photos) - Shipping: Ultra-secure shipping for this exceptional object.
