Theodore Le Roy (born 1788, died 1839) moved his watchmaking business to the Palais Royal in Paris in 1813. In 1827, he entered into a partnership with August Pierre Lepaute; in the same year, they were appointed court watchmakers to the King (Brevet d’horlogers du Roi). Following Theodore’s death in 1839 and his son’s joining the business, the world-renowned name Le Roy & Fils was established, which was retained by subsequent owners throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Signed musical clocks by the founder of the renowned Le Roy firm are extremely rare on the market!
