The abbreviation ‘DDR’ does not stand for the German Democratic Republic, but denotes the highest quality grade of movements manufactured by Omega between 1905 and 1911. Due to their exceptional accuracy, these extremely rare chronometers were officially approved for service use by Canadian railway companies such as the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR). Only 900 of these chronometers, which met the requirements for observatory chronometers, were produced.
