Pink Floyd - The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (UK) – VERY...

A highly desirable very early UK stereo pressing of Pink Floyd's legendary debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, issued on Columbia under catalogue number SCX 6157. This copy combines several exceptionally attractive early-production features: the original YAX 3419-1 / YAX 3420-1 stereo matrices, the scarce "File Under Popular" sleeve variation, and remarkably low 1M / 1R mother and stamper codes. Using EMI's stamper coding system, these are exceptionally early production numbers—both sides pressed from the first mother, with M representing stamper 4 and R representing stamper 2. An early first-mother stereo pressing with notably low stamper codes and gives it especially strong collector appeal. The "File Under Popular" sleeve appeared only shortly after the very earliest sleeve configuration and remains one of the most recognisable early cover variations of the album. For collectors of original UK Pink Floyd, this is exactly the kind of copy where the details matter. ⸻ Sleeve (VG+): The original laminated flipback sleeve remains structurally strong and attractive. The rear flipbacks are clean and well preserved, with only one light mark to the front lamination that is faintly visible and does not seriously affect the overall presentation. The laminate retains good sheen, grading a strong VG+. Vinyl (VG+): The vinyl retains a very attractive gloss and presents well overall. There is only light playwear together with a few superficial, non-feelable marks, with no deep scratches or serious surface defects. Overall a very solid VG+ example with strong visual presentation. Inner Sleeve: Original period inner sleeve included. ⸻ Details * UK stereo pressing, very early issue * Columbia SCX 6157 * "File Under Popular" sleeve variation * Original laminated flipback sleeve * Original inner sleeve included * Stereo ⸻ Matrix / Stampers * Side 1: YAX 3419-1 / 1M * Side 2: YAX 3420-1 / 1R
