PMM 408] Provenance: A. Fineberg ; ffep with contemporary ownership inscription. 'The theory of relativity has transformed astrophysics, and indeed the whole scientific outlook' (PMM). The first English edition of one of the most influential scientific works of the 20th century. First published in Germany in 1916, this translation is of the third German edition of 1918 but contains an additional section: Appendix III 'The Experimental Confirmation of the General Theory of Relativity'.
