Detailed description: - Subject of the photograph: Spectacular view aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery during the STS-103 mission. Astronaut C. Michael Foale performs an EVA and works near the protective canister of the Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) in the shuttle's payload bay. - Historical context: This EVA occurred as part of the second maintenance mission for the Hubble Space Telescope (STS-103), conducted in December 1999.
