PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Peru. 8 Reales, (1832-34). Manila Mint.

PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Peru. 8 Reales, (1832-34). Manila Mint. Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Damage, VF Details; Countermark: VF Details. KM-84; Basso-55; PNM#6-73; PNM#16-162; PNM#21-VI-124; Cacho-Unlisted; Gil-5-4-1-C. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark: Type V, crowned F.7.o countermark within circular indent. Applied to the obverse of an 1833-CUZCO B Peru Republic 8 Reales (KM-142.4). The countermark is bold, but due to an attempted piercing on the opposing side the center is bulged out. The host is evenly worn with mottled earthy patina with areas of lighter coloration. Close inspection of the reverse reveals an incuse mirror image of a previous countermark. These incuse impressions can be traced throughout the series and are the result of an errant F.7.o or Y.II. hitting the striking surface leaving an impression on the anvil. Aside from an interesting countermark characteristic the host coin itself is surprisingly RARE as a single letter assayer as compared to its more frequently encountered BoAr counterpart. Overall a piece that has certainly seen better days, but such is life of circulating coinage. Estimate: $500 - $700. Click here for certification details from PCGS. Estimation:€266.44
