Paul Bory - Mémoires d'un Romain - [EO] - Superbe cartonnage d'éditeur - 1890

Superb publisher's binding in original edition (1890) Important work by Paul Bory tracing with precision daily life, customs, and institutions of ancient Rome in narratological form. ** Description of the binding : Magnificent publisher's binding in red percaline, richly adorned on the upper cover with a polychrome and gold design inspired by neoclassicism (depicting the Roman she-wolf, colonnades, Vesuvius erupting, and an intertwined palm). Spine ornamented identically with gold motifs and the title. The three edges are entirely gilded and have preserved a beautiful shine. ** Condition of preservation : - Binding: In excellent condition, very solid binding and crisp corners. Plaque decoration with great freshness, gilding vivid and well preserved. - Interior: Complete. Presence of scattered foxing (frequent on publisher Mame’s papers from that era), not affecting readability of the text. - Illustrations: Abundantly illustrated with engravings hors-texte. A remarkable copy for any collector of 19th-century fine bindings or enthusiasts of Roman history. Prompt and careful shipping.
