"St James the Moor - Slayer" (Known in Spanish iconography as Santiago Matamoros). The scallop shells on his chest armor are the universal symbol of Saint James and the famous pilgrimage route, the Camino de Santiago. Painted in red on the center of his chest plate is the Cruz de Santiago (Cross of St James). The distinct symbol is shaped like a cross, combined with a medieval sword, featuring a fleur-de-lis guard. In historical Spanish legends, Saint James miraculously appeared as a Knight on a charging horse to assist Christian armies.
