Toutes les enchères / Arts Graphiques / Paolo Veronese (1528-1588), after - Il ratto di Europa

• Michelangelo Grigoletti - Ratto d'Europa - lithograph - inventory S-FC53016 - • Image dimensions 51.1 × 64.2 cm - Size with frame in cm. 98 x 75 • original work: Paolo Veronese • printer/publisher: Premiata Litografia Veneta / Giovanni Kirchmayr - Venice. Interesting: A Ca' Foscari University study expressly identifies Grigoletti's lithograph as “Il ratto d'Europa, 1835,” produced within the great publishing initiative of the Forty paintings among the most famous of the Venetian School. So the print is a nineteenth-century piece. The print is not a graphic work by Paolo Veronese. The correct attribution is: Paolo Veronese (1528–1588), author of the original painting ↓ Michelangelo Grigoletti (1801–1870), designer/author of the lithographic translation ↓ Premiata Litografia Veneta, Venice – Giovanni Kirchmayr, printer/publisher The Central Institute for Graphic Arts indeed lists Grigoletti as designer and Veronese as “inventor” of the original work. And there’s a detail that increases its interest: This is not simply any nineteenth-century lithograph. It was part of the project of the “Forty paintings among the most famous of the Venetian school,” promoted in Venice to document and spread on paper the masterpieces of great Venetian painting. The project involved several young artists from the Academy of Fine Arts of Venice, including Grigoletti himself. The lithograph of the painting is therefore a testimony to the Venetian artistic culture of the nineteenth century, as well as a reproduction of a Veronese work. The print cataloged by the Central Institute for Graphic Arts measures 51.1 × 64.2 cm of image; For this exemplar, considering a nineteenth-century original print, large format, identified author, important work by Veronese, good condition The paper is particularly well preserved, without major restorations, tears, etc. The print is framed behind glass in a beautiful antique frame that measures 98 x 75 cm.
