PAIR OF SELJUK BRONZE OIL LAMPS WITH BIRD FINIALS

Ca. AD 1100 - 1300 A pair of cast bronze oil lamps, each with a rounded body, a projecting angular spout and a hinged lid surmounted by a bird-shaped finial. Both rest on tall, spreading pedestal feet with faceted sides and have vertical oval loop handles terminating in stylised birds with elongated necks and projecting tails. The bodies, lids and feet are engraved with geometric ornament, stylised inscriptions and interlaced motifs.
