Toutes les enchères / Arts Graphiques / Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) - "Dora Maar, 1937" - 60 x 80cm
Pablo Picasso: "Dora Maar, 1937". - Pablo Picasso (na), authorized offset on heavy smooth satin paper (approximately 300 g/m2). Size: 60 x 80 cm. Condition: excellent. Authorized edition 1999. Pablo Picasso, born in 1881 in Málaga, Spain, was one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He was a co-founder of Cubism and developed a wide range of styles throughout his prolific career. His work includes painting, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, and set design, with groundbreaking contributions to modern art. Picasso is especially known for works such as Les Demoiselles d'Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), in which he experimented with form, color, and abstraction to challenge traditional artistic norms. Picasso's works are among the most valuable on the art market. His painting Women of Algiers was sold in 2015 for a record amount of $179.4 million. His extraordinary influence and versatility across different periods, including the Blue Period, the Rose Period, and Cubism, make his works highly sought after by collectors worldwide. "Dora Maar" from 1937 showcases Picasso's beloved muse, the French photographer Dora Maar. This portrait, with its bold, expressive colors and distorted forms, is characteristic of Picasso's style during his surrealist and cubist periods. The face is fragmented, with exaggerated eyes and sharp angles, creating a sense of emotional intensity and complexity. The vibrant yellows, greens, and pinks reflect Picasso's emotional involvement with Maar, who frequently appeared in his works in the late 1930s and early 1940s. This work was created in the same period as his masterwork Guernica, when Picasso was deeply influenced by the Spanish Civil War. The fractured and distorted character of Dora Maar reflects the broader themes of unrest and psychological depth that permeated his work at that time. The portrait has grown into one of Picasso's iconic images of women, symbolizing both personal and political struggle. In summary, Picasso's contributions to modern art are unmatched, and his works remain among the most valuable in the world. His 1937 portrait of Dora Maar illustrates his unique ability to combine emotional depth with innovative form and color.
