Toutes les enchères / Sports & Loisirs / Outstanding Pete Rose professional model baseball bat...

Outstanding Pete Rose professional model baseball bat c.1968 (First NL Batting Championship Season)(PSA/DNA "GU 10"). Louisville Slugger 125 model bat with Rose facsimile signature in the barrel measures 36" long and weighs 32.1oz. Model number "S2" is factory stamped in the knob which has a period "33" pencil notation (weigh at time of production). Uncracked with outstanding use including ball marks which cover the hitting surface. In addition there is minor grain swelling due to repeated contact. Healthy coat of pine tar on the handle lends to exceptional display value. The 1968 season was a standout even among career numbers like Rose posted consistently for over (20) years. He lead the National League in hits (210) and average (.335) to claim the first of (3) eventual batting titles. One of history's most prolific hitters he would go on to rewrite record books and leave behind a lasting, albeit complicated, legacy as one of baseball's all-time greats. The bat possesses an outstanding chain of provenance within the family of the original recipient. In May of 1968 or 1969 a young man was brought by his father to Cincinnati to see a Reds game driving from Chicago where the family resided. The father grew up in Cincinnati, played baseball at the University of Cincinnati, won the batting championship in 1929, and he played in Crosley Field which was the Reds stadium before Riverfront Stadium. The father and his son were at the game with seats near home plate and the Reds dugout. During batting practice a ball rolls over to where we are sitting and the young man reached over and picked it up. Bench was there and signed it. Then the others. Rose was headed to the dugout and upon asking him to sign the ball he scowled and then looked into the bat rack. He pulled out a bat, held on to the handle end, and stuck it out toward the young man who thought he wanted me to put the ball on the end of the bat and he would balance it and flip it back to him and he would sign it. Rose then said “Here” and jiggled the bat as to say “take it." The bat has remained within the personal collection of the original recipient and is without question one of the finest we have encountered. Includes LOA from PSA/DNA (Graded "GU 10") and letter of provenance from the original recipient: EX
