In 1872 Otto Leonard Wiskemann, a member of a German family with a long history in silver-smithing, established a workshop at Rue des Longs Chariots in Brussels. In the preceding years he had worked as a pupil in Paris, where he learned the trade. He had also witnessed the introduction of electroplated silverware, introduced to continental Europe by Charles Christofle from England. With this experience and knowledge, Otto managed to start a company in the 1870s that would later grow into Belgium’s best-known silversmith and a symbol of quality. The heyday lasted between the two world wars. The company eventually went under in the 1970s; a century of Belgian silversmithing history came to an end. #ExclusiveSelectio
