Opinel N°08 Ibex – Folding knife engraved – Oak wood – Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade – France Description Up for auction is an elegant Opinel N°08 Ibex, one of the most captivating versions of the iconic French knife, featuring a refined laser engraving depicting a wild boar in a mountainous landscape on the oak wood handle. The N°08 is the most versatile model in the historic Opinel collection: thanks to its balanced size and light weight, it is perfect for daily use, hikes, camping, trekking, mushroom foraging, picnics, and convivial moments. The 8.5 cm blade is made from European-origin Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, tempered to 55-57 HRC, an alloy developed to offer an excellent balance between cutting ability, edge retention, and corrosion resistance. Its high wear resistance allows the blade to maintain its edge for a long time even with regular use on demanding materials, while the stainless steel requires minimal maintenance under normal use conditions. The handle, 10.9 cm long, is crafted from premium French oak wood, a hard, durable essence naturally rich in tannins that make it particularly protected against insects and fungi. The finish with protective varnish preserves the wood from moisture and dirt, maintaining its beauty over time. The knife features the famous Virobloc safety ring, invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel and present on all models from No. 06 onward. Made of stainless steel, it consists of a fixed part and a rotating part that lets you lock the blade in either the open position for safer use or the closed position, ensuring safe transport. The item comes with the original Opinel packaging, as shown in the photographs.
