Olympia - Doctors Watch - Bidlingmaier Kal

Olympia – Art Deco “Doctor’s Watch” – Manual wind – Bidlingmaier Cal. 812 – circa 1930s Offered is an extraordinary Olympia Art Deco wristwatch with the characteristic “Doctor’s Watch” design and a mechanical manual-wind movement Bidlingmaier Caliber 812. Hence dating it to the year 1935! Particularly interesting is the unusual layout of the rectangular dial: In the upper area sits the actual time display with bold, highly stylized Arabic numerals, while the large separate small seconds occupies the lower area. This design gives the watch the typical elongated Art Deco look of early rectangular wristwatches. The dial is in a noticeably aged, authentic condition with pronounced patina, discolorations, and signs of aging. Together with the blued hands, it creates a very characterful vintage appearance. The watch was deliberately not cosmetically restored, so its historical character has been preserved. Inside is a mechanical Bidlingmaier Caliber 812 with manual winding. The movement shows the classic construction of this era and makes the watch, technically, an interesting piece for collectors of early German- or German-sourced wristwatches. The mechanical hand-winding movement runs. On the time graphed, a rate of about +33 seconds/day was measured with an indicated amplitude of about 236°. The measurement is a snapshot and does not constitute a guarantee of future accuracy. The rectangular case shows age- and wear-related scratches as well as wear to the surface finish. The crystal and dial also show visible signs of aging. The fitted black leather strap is also used and shows clear wear marks. Please note the numerous detail photos, which are part of the condition description.
