Officine Metallurgiche Sgarbi

Officine Metallurgiche Sgarbi

“The Elegance of the Atom and the Soul of True Italian Espresso: A Gem of Futurist-Space Age Design produced by the Historic Metalworking Workshops STELLA of Ferrara.” Manufacturer: Sgarbi, Chiozzi & C. (Later Stella / Metallurgica Lux) Model: Baby-Express "Stella" (Original enameled badge with world map) Era: 1950s (Mid-Century / Space Age) Origin: Ferrara, Italy Materials: Chrome-plated metal finish, details in Bakelite / thermosetting resin Type: Electric espresso maker with steam-pressure, dispensing spout, and voltage selector (120V / 150V / 220V) Included accessories: 2 chromed metal cups with coordinating handle and vintage textile/rubberized power cable with vintage plug. Immerse yourself in the golden era of Italian Industrial Design with this extraordinary and emblematic Baby-Express "Stella" set, born in the roaring ’50s from the renowned Officine Metallurgiche Sgarbi, Chiozzi & C. of Ferrara. With its slender lines reminiscent of missiles and the space age aesthetic, this coffee maker is not just a household appliance: it is a true display sculpture, a masterpiece of engineering and design destined for the most demanding collectors. The Stella firm of Ferrara represented for decades the pinnacle of elegant cutlery and metal-tableware in Italy and around the world. Renowned for meticulous construction and patent innovations, the house signed some of the most iconic coffee makers of the 20th century. In perfect aesthetic condition, the enameled logo shows the classic world map framed by the label "Baby-Express Stella - PRODUCT STELLA". The top features the characteristic cone-shaped cream Bakelite knob for the hermetic closure of the high-pressure boiler. The metallic electrical connector at the base bears the different voltage options (120V - 150V - 220V), a fascinating testimony to a time when the electrical grid was undergoing transition. Included is the pair of rare chromed metal cups with coordinated handles, and the curved delivery nozzle that pours the dense, aromatic coffee directly into the cups. Item preserved with an era-appropriate cord. It is sold as a rare collectible/vintage display piece (not electrically tested on a modern network for safety reasons related to collectible regulations). Vintage coffee makers signed Sgarbi, Chiozzi & C. / Stella are increasingly scarce on the international market, especially in this cosmetic condition and complete with all original accessories (cups and cord). An essential piece for a coffee museum, a showcase of Italian Design, or a classy Mid-Century kitchen!"
