With punch of "I.Vogler" in a rectangle, featuring a rounded end and pointed fins, period "CSS" monogram to handle. 8 1/2 in. 1.65 troy oz. Private Collection, Pinehurst, North Carolina John Vogler (1783-1881) learned the craft of silversmithing from his uncle, Christoph Vogler (1765-1827), and other Moravian silversmiths. A talented and versatile metalsmith and businessman, Vogler's business was located in Old Salem where he crafted a variety of objects including watches and clocks, spoons, ladles, as well as various surveyors' tools and implements he supplied to the Moravian congregation. A few minor dents to the bowl and handle.
