Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs No Reserve - Large size Antique English Needlepoint Carpet Size: 18 ft x 11 ft 3 in (5.49 m x 3.43 m) Provenance: Inventory of the late Albert Karmely A monumental English needlepoint carpet created through the labor-intensive process of embroidering wool yarn through a canvas foundation. This technique allowed makers to achieve detailed floral and pictorial effects while retaining the tactile presence of a substantial floor covering. Large needlepoint carpets were important elements in British and Anglo-American interiors, where they brought the traditions of fine needlework into an architectural format. The Metropolitan Museum of Art preserves significant English examples, including an eighteenth-century wool needlepoint carpet.
