Biography of Ninni Pagano Born in Catania in 1969, Ninni Pagano initially pursued scientific studies, a background that will influence the precision and structure of his future works. His entry into the world of art occurred through study with master Antonio Sciacca, with whom he shares a vision of art as a bridge between different eras. The Poetics: "The Chamber of Wonders" Pagano’s research is closely tied to the concept of Wunderkammer (Chamber of Wonders). His works are often conceived as mental spaces where they merge: Classicism and Pop: Elements of Greek and Renaissance statuary are reinterpreted with compact colors and contemporary symbolisms. Alchemy and Philosophy: The artist investigates the enigma of existence through dreamlike figures (such as his famous "Swan Women") and Hermetic references. Matter: He uses blended powders to achieve a chromatic compactness that gives canvases a quasi-sculptural dimension. Achievements and Recognitions Although his exhibition career fully took off around 2011, he quickly reached significant international milestones: Venice Biennale: He exhibited at the 56th edition (2015) within the show "Grazie Italia" at the Guatemala Pavilion. Rome Triennale: Participation in the Visual Arts Exposition of the 2014 Triennale. Publications: His work is included in Mondadori’s Catalogo d’Arte Moderna (CAM) and in the De Agostini Atlas of Contemporary Art. International Presence: His works have been shown at prestigious venues such as the Altes Dampfbad Museum in Baden-Baden, Germany, and at Art Market in Budapest. In addition to being a painter and sculptor, Pagano is an expert connoisseur of antique art. This passion is reflected in the way he “recovers” the past, not to copy it, but to transform it into a grotesque and fascinating language that speaks of the contradictions of modern man. The Illusion of Memory The illusion of memory is the tendency of the human mind to perceive memories as faithful archives of the past, when in reality they are fluid reconstructions continually shaped by the emotions of the present. This dynamic is not a simple cognitive error, but a complex tension between the desire to preserve and the transient nature of human experience. 1. Creative Reconstruction Memory does not operate like an immutable photograph, but like a work of art in constant re-elaboration. Every time we bring to mind an event, we do not evoke the original event, but the last version we remembered. Emotional Filtering: Current emotions alter the colors, details, and gravity of past memories. Lack of Continuity: The mind fills plot gaps by inventing plausible details to give a logical sense to lived experience. 2. The Suspended Custody (The “Cloistered Bell Syndrome”) Conceptually or artistically, the attempt to preserve memory resembles a relic in a display case: the moment a memory is isolated to be protected from time, it loses contact with living reality. Trying to crystallize the past turns it into an ideal artifact, an icon that tells more of the present need for protection than the truth of the past. 3. The Deceptive Certainty The paradox of memory lies in the deep conviction of its accuracy. The more vivid and personally meaningful a memory is, the surer we are of its accuracy, even when psychology and neuroscience show that the most vivid memories are often the most prone to distortion. 4. Existential Meaning The illusion of memory is not a defect but a survival mechanism and expression: Protection of Identity: It allows us to construct a coherent narrative of who we are, softening traumas and magnifying moments of meaning. Poetic Value: It is precisely its inaccuracy that makes memory material for art, philosophy, and introspection. The work was exhibited in Volterra alongside three other works at L’Art Week and received the following recognition: Excellence and critical notes for the show La grande bellezza Critical note by C. De Felice: Icons of a millennial wait: transfiguration and myth in Ninni Pagano’s art Ninni Pagano’s painting explores the memory of the ancient and the solitude of the future, populated by hieratic female figures that symbolize isolation and pure beauty. On the occasion of Art Week 2026, the artist investigates Transfiguration through works such as Attesa iperborea and Eredità sottovuoto. Using oil on canvas, Pagano creates ethereal figures wrapped in a deep blue, embodying a new and fascinating mythology. In works like Il silenzio del blu or Diva nell’etere, the process of transfiguration takes place as a temporal gateway: the hieratic faces and elongated necks merge classical statuary with a futuristic, suspended essence. It is an intense visual inquiry that delves into solitude and formal purity, restoring to the viewer the sense of timeless waiting. Ninni Pagano’s work deserves recognition for its extraordinary ability to fuse archaic appeal with a future vision in a painting of the highest caliber. The artist’s stylistic signature, dominated by hieratic female figures and a hypnotic use of deep blue, gives rise to an unprecedented mythology that turns the canvas into a space of pure contemplation. It is a rigorous and visionary formal exploration, capable of elevating transfiguration to the keystone of an intense, cultivated, and deeply suggestive poetic. Instagram:@ninnipagano
