Nicolay - Gedichte, 6 Bände

Nicolay, L.H.v. Vermischte Gedichte und prosaische Schriften. 8 Tle. in 6 Bdn. Berlin u. Stettin, Nicolai 1792-1810. Mit 1 mehrfach gefalt. Kupferstichplan. Dekorative Halblederbände d. Zt. mit 2 farb. RSch., ornamentaler Rückenvergoldung u. goldgepr. Bordüren auf den Deckeln (etwas bestoßen). Goedeke IV, 629, 5; Hayn/Gotendorf V, 383; Raabe, Kat. Nicolay, LHv Miscellaneous Poems and Prose Writings. 8 parts in 6 volumes. Berlin and Stettin, Nicolai 1792–1810. With 1 multi-folded copperplate engraving. Decorative contemporary half-leather bindings with 2 colored spine labels, ornamental gilt spines, and gilt-stamped borders on the covers (some wear). Goedeke IV, 629, 5; Hayn/Gotendorf V, 383; Raabe, Cat. Nicolai 283). - First edition. - With the almost always missing eighth volume, published 15 years after the seventh (this volume in turn with the additional single title 'Ballads' and the separately paginated appendix 'The Monrepos Estate' with the engraved plan). - Ludwig Heinrich von Nicolay (Strasbourg 1737-1820 Monrepos Palace near Vyborg), in Russian service since 1766, was appointed tutor, later secretary and librarian to Grand Duke Paul in St. Petersburg in 1769, who, now Tsar, appointed him President of the Academy of Sciences in 1798. After the Tsar's death, Nicolay retired to his Monrepos estate in 1803. He intended the 24-page description of the castle and garden as an addition to the ballads of the eighth volume; however, its own sheet size and signature indicate that it was probably also sold separately. - Slightly browned and partly somewhat foxed.
