Nicolas Poussin (1594-1665), Workshop of - Mosè salvato dalle acque

This is a beautiful and pleasant oil on paper applied to canvas, dating from the 17th century. The author must surely have been a collaborator of the workshop or a member of Nicolas Poussin's circle, because this painting, not at all a copy of a painting by the French master, is a kind of study or contemporaneous elaboration of Poussin's paintings dealing with the finding of Moses. The figures are of excellent quality, as is the chromatic orchestration and the buildings in the background. Attached at the bottom of the description is a photograph of the Poussin painting kept in the Louvre to better understand the similarity, in the section devoted to imagery. In particular our painting closely resembles the one kept in the Louvre, while maintaining absolute compositional autonomy. In the background one can recognize a typical Egyptian city, with pyramids and temples. The figures are typically classical, and reflect the classicism of the painter we have just mentioned. The figures are depicted in the act of witnessing the finding of Moses, who is in the wicker basket. It should be remembered that there are currently about twenty Nicolas Poussin works relating to the theme of Moses' finding. It was a theme he dealt with several times, and with many versions of paintings that are housed in some important museums around the world. The dimensions of the painting including the frame are: 41 cm × 56 cm, while without the frame, which is not contemporaneous but dates to the early twentieth century, it measures 46 cm × 30 cm. The canvas on which the paper is affixed is typically seventeenth-century (see photograph of the back). The painting does not require restoration. The shipment will be made with professional packaging and through specialized couriers. A certificate of authenticity drawn up by qualified personnel holding a Master’s Degree in Art History is provided.
