Toutes les enchères / Bijouterie & Joaillerie / Newly made Platinum Anchor Chain, 45.0 cm Long, with Lobster Clasp

Platinum is a very special jewellery metal. Although it has been known in Europe since the beginning of the 16th century - the first deposits were found in South America - and numerous alchemists have repeatedly studied its properties, it has only been used for jewellery since the turn of the century around c. 1900. Due to the high temperatures required to process it, it was previously almost impossible to use. However, the great strength of the metal allows the finest eyelets and bars to be created, which nevertheless withstand all stresses and strains. At the beginning of the 20th century, the price of platinum was many times higher than that of gold, so that only the most precious jewels were made from this material and are known to us today as white jewels. As well-preserved, antique platinum chains are virtually impossible to find on the market, we have had some classic anchor chains made from 950/000 platinum by a traditional manufacturer in Pforzheim. These chains with a length of 45 centimetres are ideal for giving pendants from the Belle Époque or Art Deco white jewels a worthy hold. We have opted for a classic round anchor pattern and a sturdy lobster clasp.
