This exceptional ball of Yooperlite – also known as sodalite lava, UV sodalite, or a special form of fluorescent syenite – reveals under UV light a magical spectacle. The normally gray-black speckled surface begins to glow a vibrant orange, creating a living pattern of fiery light islands that resemble glowing magma veins. In normal light the ball shows an elegant, granular structure of feldspar-rich rock fragments, black mineral fragments, and the characteristic orange sodalite inclusions. Yet only in UV light does it reveal its true peculiarity – an effect that makes every piece a rare and coveted display item and, especially in collections of fluorescent minerals, a real highlight. The natural luminescence arises from particular sodalite components that occur in this form only at a few places worldwide. Therefore, the ball not only has a special optical effect but is also regarded as a value-adding collector’s item from a comparatively young but highly attractive mining-area trend.
