No hardness, density or spectroscopy tests are available. Gemological curiosities Fluorite takes its name from the Latin fluere, related to its historical use as a flux. The fluorescence phenomenon owes its name to this mineral, although not all fluorites exhibit visible fluorescence under ultraviolet light. The bands of different colors make each specimen a singular geological composition. Advice Its combination of violet and pink tones blends especially well with white, black, gray and neutral-colored garments. Care and preservation Fluorite is relatively delicate. Avoid impacts, drops, intense heat, perfumes and chemicals. Clean with a soft cloth. Do not use ultrasonic cleaning or abrasive cleaning.
