The bas-relief named 'ENDURANCE' (endurance) is designed in Art Deco style and based on the historic reliefs by American sculptor Rene Paul Chambellan (1893–1955), originally created on commission for the Chanin Building in New York. CHANIN BUILDING The Chanin Building was constructed in 1929 by Irwin Salmon Chanin (1891–1988). Chanin rose from modest beginnings as the son of an immigrant family to become a successful architect and real estate developer. With the building that bears his name, he wanted to express everything that New York City meant to him and can mean for anyone who chooses to seize opportunities and strive for success. In the lobby of the building, eight monumental reliefs were installed above decorative bronze grilles. These works collectively carry the theme 'New York, the City of Opportunity', in which four mental qualities (vision, courage, enlightenment, achievement) and four physical qualities (activity, effort, endurance, success) are central for the individual who strives for growth and the achievement of success. ATELIER LAURIER DESIGN The object offered in this auction has been designed and crafted with great care by Atelier Laurier Design. Based on all available photographs and historical sources, this highly detailed reconstruction has been produced. Each component has been meticulously worked out to capture the elegance of the original reliefs. LIMITED EDITION The bas-relief 'ENDURANCE' in this auction is part of a limited edition. The relief is signed and numbered on the back. In addition, a certificate of authenticity is included.
