A0000005613 MONTBLANC GREAT CHARACTERS FOUNTAIN PEN "ALFRED HITCHCOCK" (GERMANY, 2011): We present at auction one of the most acclaimed and coveted limited editions in modern Montblanc history. Paying tribute to the master of suspense, this monumental fountain pen belongs to the exclusive "Great Characters" collection and is strictly limited to only 3,000 units worldwide (Reference 0337/3000). The design of the piece is an intricate homage to Hitchcock's filmography. The hefty body and cap are forged in Solid Sterling Silver (Ag 925), over which a dark lacquer with a spiral concentric line effect has been applied, emulating the iconic spiral staircase from the film Vertigo. The clip is a masterful recreation of the menacing knife from the unforgettable shower scene in Psycho. The silver rings feature laser-engraved inscriptions inspired by the clapper notes from North by Northwest. By unscrewing the cap, the fountain pen reveals a superb 18K solid gold nib (750) rhodium-plated, finely engraved with the director’s iconic profile self-portrait. Condition (Expert Review) The piece is in exceptional condition and comes with its complete set: Silver and Lacquer: The spiral lacquer is pristine. As is typical of solid silver pieces conserved for years, the rings and plated/silvered accents have developed a beautiful natural patina of oxidation (golden/coppery tones, very visible in photos 7 and 8). It has been decided to leave it in its original, unpolished state, as purist collectors love this evidence of the passage of time (can be restored to a mirror-silver shine with a chamois if the buyer prefers). Mechanism and Presentation: The integrated piston operates perfectly. It is delivered complete with its monumental rigid case shaped like a film reel, the quotations booklet ("Famous Quotes"), and the outer protective box. (Note: It ships uninked).
