Michael Joseph (1941-) - Pretty blonde fur coat...

Lady Exits Car - Fur, Glamour & a Hint of Theatre Michael Joseph, mid-1960s Original darkroom print, signed A woman steps from a vintage open-top car, dressed in a dark fur coat, matching hat and striking lace-up boots. One gloved hand touches her hat; her gaze meets the camera with an almost conspiratorial smile. Two men in theatrical military-style uniforms complete the scene: one holds the car door, while the other sits stiffly behind her. Against the old stone architecture, their contrasting expressions turn a fashion photograph into something wonderfully cinematic—with just a hint of comedy. Michael Joseph brings the same gift for directing people to this intimate trio that he brought to his celebrated larger group compositions. Every figure has a role, yet the woman effortlessly commands the picture. Identified in the archive as a fur advertisement, the precise client and campaign remain unconfirmed. The image nevertheless captures the glamour and playful theatricality of his advertising work during the 1960s. Presented in a silver-grey mount bearing the handwritten annotations “Mid 60s” and “Lady Exits Car”, alongside Michael Joseph’s signature. The mount shows visible surface marks; please examine the photographs for condition. Mount dimensions: 50 × 40 cm, portrait format. Provenance: Directly from the Michael Joseph family archive.
