Mercury Seven Multi-Signed Cover - Grad

Rare postal cover signed by all seven original Mercury astronauts: Alan Shepard, Gus Grissom, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Wally Schirra, Gordon Cooper, and Deke Slayton. The signatures appear together on the front of an envelope addressed to Johnny Currier of Gloucester, Massachusetts, postmark dated October 1961. The Mercury Seven were selected by NASA in 1959 as America's first astronauts, launching the nation's human spaceflight program. The group included Shepard, the first American in space; Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth; and Grissom, who later died in the Apollo 1 tragedy in 1967. Complete sets of all seven signatures on a single period cover are particularly desirable, especially examples dating to the early Mercury program. Authenticated by Steve Grad through digital review, with a letter of verification. Grad (GA-09040). Catalog Note: This cover was previously mistakenly identified as containing an autopen signature of Alan Shepard. That identification has since been corrected, and the listing has been revised to reflect the authentication of all seven signatures by Steve Grad Estimate $1,000 - $2,000
