Toutes les enchères / Autres / Meindert Hobbema (1638-1709), Circle of - Landschap

This concerns a very special little work and so recognizable as a work by Meindert Hobbema 1638-1709 (attributed to). It is painted on panel and is set in a beautiful decorative frame. Hobbema's works are not influenced by his contemporary Rembrandt, but by his master Jacob van Ruisdael. In this painting you immediately recognize Hobbema (google images). The work does have healthy fine craquelure, but that is to be expected after a few hundred years. A particularly fine little work! Hobbema belongs to the artists who were not influenced by Rembrandt. Hobbema's landscapes clearly show the influence of his master Jacob van Ruisdael, but are usually somewhat lighter and less sober in tone. His work is not heroic or theatrical; he combines forest landscapes with cheerful travel companions. The wallpaper painter Egbert van Drielst and the English landscape painter Thomas Gainsborough have been influenced by him. His best-known work is The Avenue at Middelharnis (1689), which in 1822 was sold by the municipality of Middelharnis and is now part of the collection of the National Gallery in London. There was particular interest in his landscapes in England in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 2014 a painting by Hobbema, titled Forest Landscape with a Merry Company in a Carriage (ca. 1665), was donated to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. This painting was included in the Gallery of Honour.
