MEDSAN (XX) - Stained Glass Pikachu

THERE EXISTS IN THE WORLD ONLY ONE EXEMPLAR - EDITION 1/1 With this square-format work, Medsan brings Pikachu, mascot of the Pokémon franchise created by Satoshi Tajiri and Ken Sugimori, into the vocabulary of medieval stained glass. The electric creature steps out of the Game Boy screen to occupy the space reserved for saints in Gothic windows, yellow light brandished as a sacred attribute. The cartouche メドサン, placed at the bottom right, signs the work as if it were a seal. The treatment faithfully reproduces the grammar of stained glass: a thick black leaded network that incises every stroke of color, frosted glass in the mass with irregular transparencies, grisaille painted with a brush for the shading of the fur and the modeling of the face. Iron georgettes cross the composition diagonally, like on a true stained glass pane mounted in a window. The palette fuses deep blues and emerald greens inherited from Chartres and Sainte-Chapelle, while the argent yellow and ruby reds concentrate light on the body and the lightning. The visible cracks in the glass and the points of oxidation give the whole a patina of ancient glass, restored rather than new. The mashup says something precise about our era: the icons we admire today are no longer holographic but playful, and stained glass — medieval technology of luminous image, ancestor of the backlit screen — finds here its primary function of transmitting a collective narrative. The stern, frontal gaze of the character, far from the smiling mascot, underlines this gravity assumed. The breakage of the glass recalls that popular pantheons themselves age. A bright and strongly graphic piece, ideal for bringing a note that is at once sacred and pop into a contemporary interior of a collector attached to the bridges between heritage and video game culture. Installed as a true place of artistic production, the atelier operates both in collective creation and in individual pathways, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family adventure. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective work with cinematic and realistic influences. Next to him, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography, and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo subscribes to a more instinctive search, blending abstract art, art brut, and figurative abstraction. Every work is conceived, realized, and guided within the atelier, with a common artistic exigency and an identity of its own for each artist.
