Maxime Dufour (1928-2016) - Paysage Village côtier - Mer...

We present to you this grand oil on cardboard depicting a colorful coastal village set against a sea backdrop, by Maxime Dufour (1928-2016). This very colorful seascape features a coastal village with geometrized houses, dominated by a church and stylized hills, at the edge of a blue sea. The signature MAXIME is visible at the bottom left. Title: Coastal Village – Sea and Hills Technique: Oil on cardboard Artist: Maxime Dufour (1928-2016) Condition: Good apparent condition, with a slight vertical mark visible in the marine area Frame: Red wooden frame with a gilded filet (frame scratches) Sheet size: 80.2 cm x 60 cm. Maxime Dufour (1928-2016) was a French painter, illustrator, and poster designer. Coming from studies that combined fine arts and architecture, he preserved throughout his life a rigorously structured artistic line, highly drawn graphical works, and a marked preference for vivid colors. This aesthetic approach allowed him to develop a particularly impressive and varied artistic output over his career. In the second half of the 20th century, his talent found abundant expression through commercial advertising and cultural illustration. He designed numerous large-scale advertising campaigns as well as memorable institutional posters, notably for the airline Air Gabon or for occupational risk prevention. His work deeply marks the world of popular music from the 1950s to the 1980s. Indeed, he signs the jackets and album covers of French song icons such as Johnny Hallyday and Eddie Mitchell. Alongside his commissioned work, Maxime Dufour built a remarkable personal pictorial oeuvre. His canvases or cardboard works, often signed only with his first name “MAXIME,” evolve toward abstract compositions and acrylics with strong geometric forms. Regularly presented at public auction houses in France, his paintings continue to attest to the richness of his colorful and rigorous visual universe.
