Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. Mid 1960s. Maud Lewis was fascinated with the forms of transportation so important to early life. She has delightfully placed this horse and buggy transporting the trio of passengers in a very happy early spring setting. This is a relatively scarce serial image similar to one featured on page 27 of "Maud’s Country: Landscapes of Nova Scotia through the Eyes of Maud Lewis" by Lance Woolaver & Bob Brooks. In a 1965 interview on CBC’s Telescope, Maud was quoted, “Father used to hire a horse and buggy and we'd be gone all day, a span of horses, beach picnics, the whole family”. Includes letter of authenticity. Signed, "Lewis" lower right.
